Vacation Update #6 - Oprah, Ed and the Sears Tower

I'm still trying to catch up on my blog posts (we're already in Washington, DC and I'm still blogging about Chicago)! I'll probably add one post a day till I'm caught up - so keep checking for more posts. Chicago was very fun - we had hot, humid weather, sassy waitors, rain/lighting/thunder, tall buildings, cicadas and lots of friend visits!

Vacation Update # 5 - Chicago Fun!

We went to "Niki in the Park" where we saw many beautiful scultures!
It was HOT and HUMID in the park, but we survived and are once again reminded how wonderful LA weather is - most of the time!

Vacation Update # 4 - Northern Baptist Seminary

We made it to Chicago and we stayed at Northern Baptist Seminary where Doug attended back in the 1980's. Matthew kept saying we were staying at the cemetary! = - )
We stayed with Paul, Marilyn and Hannah (Doug and Marilyn were students together in the "old days" and Marilyn now works at the "cemetary." We enjoyed delicious deep dish pizza and catching up with old friends.
While we were in Chicago we were able to see the 17 year cicada! Wow, talk about an experience - they are SO loud, flying around everywhere and the dead ones were covering the ground around the trees. We screamed like city folk and managed to take a few pics.

Vacation Update #3 - Archway Monument in Nebraska

We're in Iowa now and headed to Chicago on Monday. We had a LONG day of driving today and visited the "Great Platte River Road Archway Monument" in Kearney, Nebraska.

Vacation Update #2 - Chappell, Nebraska

When we left Denver this afternoon we left one lonely, rejected flower chair on the side of the road in hopes that someone will pick it up and use it. No one wanted to buy it at the yard sale, but hopefully someone will take it for free!
We drove north east for 3 hours and now we're in Chappell, Nebraska (pronounced Chapel) visiting Dougs' college friend, Jurdan and family.
One house in town is even decorated for the 4th of July!
This is the main street in town - we were treated to a walking tour of the whole town.
Matthew had fun playing with the monkey puppet.
Here is a picture of Jurdan, Cathy and Sarah in their church (Jurdan is the pastor) and this little note was in Sarah's babybook next to a picture of David. * see below
David at 10 days old and Sarah at 10 months old - how cute! = - )

Vacation Update #1 - Denver, Colorado

We're on the road again and we had to have our last Boba Milk Tea before we left.
104 degrees in Baker, our favorite street sign in the middle of the desert and beautiful scenery.
A tire fire in Las Vegas provided a little excitement.
At the hotel in Mesquite, NV we watched "So You Think You Can Dance" - it was the show that Angelica and Jennifer went to last week and you can see them in the audience.
There is still snow on the mountains in Colorado.
We celebrated another birthday dinner for Angelica at Elephant Bar with Grandpa and Grandma Hubbard.
Today we had the first installment of Grandpa and Grandma's yard sale and tomorrow we try to sell all the stuff that didn't sell today.
It was also a time to go down memory lane - here Doug and Arlene show the Denver Post edition the day that Kennedy was shot.

Happy 16th birthday, Angelica!

Angelica is sweet 16! I made her a red velvet cake with a pecan topping.
She received a new ipod because her other ipod was stolen. = - ( Angelica's birthparents joined us for the celebration. Here is the traditional "birthday group shot" - this time Jennifer took the remote control picture.

Huntington Beach 2007

Here we are at the house before we left for the beach. This year our beach group was 33 of David's friends plus the 6 of us. This picture was VERY easy to take - notice I'm holding a remote control - it's for our new digital camera and it makes group shots a lot less stressful! = - )
It was a beautiful sunny day at the beach...volleyball,
boogie boards, sand pits,
girl and boy group shots,
all the friends, Hubbard family,
the traditional "burning of the homework" bonfire,
a beautiful sunset and a campfire on the beach to end a VERY LONG day!
