Rose Parade 2008!

The Arcadia High School Band is going to be in the 2008 Rose Parade - one of only 11 bands in the parade! That means David, Angelica and Jennifer will be in the Rose Parade!! The announcement was made at the Marching Band Finale Show on Jan. 20th.
As soon as we saw the red coat, roses and flag we KNEW it was a Rose Parade announcement! The theme will be "Passport to the World's Celebrations" and this will be a very special Rose Parade for us.
Here are a few pictures from the annual Spaghetti Dinner show - it's the finale for the marching band season and with the Rose Parade announcement it was a very special finale!
The color guard did a great job and the sophomore/junior drill down was fun.

Pinewood Derby and Clipper Game

Matthew's cub scout pack went to the Peterson Automobile Museum for their Pinewood Derby.

Right after the Pinewood Derby, Doug and Matthew headed over to the Staples Center to watch the Clippers beat the Memphis Grizzlies! They had a fun day of Father/Son bonding. = - )

California Here We Come...

A beautiful sunrise on the morning of our departure from Denver and some horses grazing in a field in Utah somewhere.
We stopped for a delicious "linner" (late lunch/early dinner) at Mom's Cafe in Salina, Utah.
Some of the sites along the drive to Nevada.
We finally arrived in Mesquite, Nevada where we stayed at Falcon Ridge Hotel (a pet friendly hotel- it was fun seeing all the dogs and cats wandering the halls). We also enjoyed a great breakfast buffet in the morning before we began our final trek back to Los Angeles.
Back in California! We had a wonderful time in all the snow in Denver, but we're very happy to be back in sunny southern California! = - )

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year from COLD Denver! Yes, we're still in Denver - we missed the Rose Parade for the 1st time in many years so that Doug could go to the Bronco game (see previous post).
We braved the icy, snowy streets to go to downtown Denver on a freezing cold New Year's Eve night to celebrate the new year with all the other crazy people!
The downtown area was beautiful with all the lights and snow - there was a huge crowd gathered to see the fireworks show.
It was our first time to see fireworks in the freezing cold!
Matthew had lots of fun and stayed warm with his many layers. After the fireworks we drove over to the city building to see the holiday lights. It was a fun evening and tomorrow we begin our drive back home. We'll be back in LA on Tuesday afternoon.

Denver Broncos Game

Doug and his high school friend were able to go to the Broncos game on New Year's Eve!
It was VERY cold and they had a great time, but sadly the Broncos lost. = - (
