The last days of vacation and the first days back at home.

We had a great afternoon in St. Louis (just before the major storm struck), but sadly all the pictures are trapped in the digital camera. Hopefully we will be able to retrieve them soon.
Our time in Denver with family was very nice - we celebrated the 50th anniversary one more time, removed a dead peach tree from the backyard, Doug preached in his home church, etc...
This the last part of the dead tree as it was being removed.
During our month long road trip we counted road-kill and our grand total was somewhere around 350! The picture was taken in the Arizona desert and I think it was a small fox.
While we were on our way home we were treated to MANY lightning storms - this was my best picture taken at the Miller farm in New Castle, Colorado.
The day after we arrived back home to HOT Los Angeles the Zambrows family came over for a visit just before they headed back home to Indiana.

Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Niagara Falls and Findlay, Ohio!!

On the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
Niagara Falls - the weather was very nice (we've actually had great weather during our whole trip - the heat seems to hit before we arrive or after we leave). Doug was a little distressed by the "fried Doug H."
Now we're in Findlay, Ohio visiting our cousins, the Baxter family!

Ground Zero and many more NYC pictures...

We walked around the whole Ground Zero site - it has been almost 5 years since 9/11, they've made a lot of progress and there's much more to do.
The group Train performed at the Good Morning America set in Bryant Park and then later that day they played for the Early Show near Central Park - we went to both concerts!
The Early Show concert.
Coney Island is the home of the world famous Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest- they do taste good! = - )
Doug and Kathy went to The Producers (50% off tickets are great) and this is what Time's Square looks like when all the plays let out at 10:30 pm - a great sea of people. We love New York!

Subways, Rent, TODAY and Letterman - Oh My!

So far, so good - we're having a blast in New York City! It's such a FUN city to visit (so much to do) and we're trying to fit it all in. We bought week-long passes for the subway so we wouldn't have to pay for parking or deal with traffic. It's been fun learning to navigate the city and tonight we even saw our first rats.
We're so HAPPY in this picture because we won the Rent lottery and were able to get four $20 dollar tickets for Rent AND sit in the first 2 rows!!
The next morning we woke up extra early to go to the TODAY show to hear Sheryl Crow sing during the summer concert series.
And we ended the day with a trip to the David Letterman show - we even met Rupert!

Philadelphia, PA to Atlantic City, NJ - what a contrast!

The Liberty Bell has a new home since our last visit 5 years ago - a lot more security and this time we couldn't touch the bell.
We took a tour of Independence Hall.
We love the City of Brotherly Love!
We made a last minute decision to go ahead and just drive to Atlantic City, NJ so we could find a cheap motel and visit the boardwalk. It was our first time there and it's very different than Vegas.
The boardwalk was fun - we didn't ride any rides but we shared 2 huge funnel cakes!

Washington DC in One Day

A one-day visit to Washington, DC wouldn't be complete without a visit to the White House.
Matthew wanted to hold the Washington Monument.
The Hope diamond.
An awesome piece of artwork for sale in the National Portrait Gallery giftshop (only $3,500) - all vintage plates.

Family celebrations, birthplace of Pepsi and flight and a submarine tour!

Our family picture on Topsail Island, NC.
We all had a wonderful time celebrating the big 50!
New Bern, NC - the birthplace of Pepsi Cola.
Angelica "holding" the Kitty Hawk memorial to Wilbur and Orville Wright in Kill Devil Hill, NC.
A group picture with Boomer just before our 3 hour VIP tour of his submarine - the most awesome tour we've ever been on, but sadly no pictures becasue it's all top secret and they'd have to destroy our camera if I took any pictures! = - (

"Ya'll Come Back Now..."

We are officially in the south, we've all learned to talk "southern" and it's going to take us a while to get back to our Southern California accents. We've been having a great time on our trip and that's one of the reasons I haven't updated in a while.
Here we are at the Clinton Library in Little Rock, Arkansas (The Oval Office).
Graceland in Memphis, TN.
The World of Coke Museum in Atlanta, Georgia.
Our beach house for the week on Topsail Island, North Carolina.
The Hubbard/Waldo reunion - we didn't all stay in one house - actually 2 beach houses! = - )
