County Fair Fun at Church

We had another great County Fair this year at church - we even had a woopie cushion!
An amazing maze was created out of donated boxes!
Jack was the winning pumpkin at Youth Group (Angelica and Jennifer helped create him) and Matthew had fun with friends.
Some UNO cards even came to our Fair!
I was in charge of the prize booth and we had some GREAT prize donations! By the end of the night we gave away ALL of the prizes!

The evening ended with a time of worship (Angelica and Jennifer were recruited to help with hand motions) and the award winners were announced for the baking, pumpkin decorating and costume contests. It was a FUN evening! = - )

Happy Halloween!

Matthew was a pirate and he was the only one home tonight (the rest of the kids had their regular marching band practice) so he had his parents all to himself.
We went trick-or-treating in our old neighborhood because we wanted to visit friends and it's the place to be on Halloween night because there's a BIG halloween party in the park near our old house. Matthew came home with a nice bundle of pirate loot! = - ) PS - guess what...our new neighborhood was very empty - we only had 4 trick-or-treaters. = - (

Doug Says Good-Bye To His Boyhood Home

Doug went back home to Colorado where he joined his brother Mark and his parents to say good-bye to his boyhood home and help with the BIG move. Here are a couple of pictures from the past - Easter 1966 and Christmas 1968 - in front of their Denver home.
An almost empty house, boxes next to the curb and a "sold" sign in the front yard.
Good-bye Winona Way - it was a great 46 years! (sorry we didn't get a picture of Mark).
The final drive away from the family home and then a picture in the new livingroom at the new condo in a new neighborhood - a new beginning for Arlene and Chuck. Congratulations! = - )

Homecoming Weekend

A couple of weekends ago it was homecoming - the football team played, the band marched...
there were fireworks to celebrate the victory - our team is undefeated this year!
Our homecoming queen is also the Rose Parade queen for the 2008 parade (sorry the picture is so blurry). The parade will be great because our band is marching and the queen is from Arcadia, too. The next day David and his friend, David, spent some time trying to tie their ties with a You Tube video - only one was successful.

They were preparing for the BIG homecoming dance at Henson Studios in Hollywood. Our house was the "limo pick up and drop off house" and Doug, Matthew and I made sure to take a picture in the limo before the kids left for the big party. = - )

The guys and David with the girls. David's date was Andrea (2nd from left).
The whole group!

Firestorm 2007

It has been a rough week in Southern California - we aren't in the fire area, but we sure have experienced the smoke all week. The pictures above show what our sunrise looks like each morning and the sunsets are just as amazing. All the sports programs, any outdoor practices and recess has been cancelled all week in our area.
Our teenagers were supposed to be at a major band competition this weekend in San Diego, but because of the fires and smoke the competition was cancelled. Also, 2 of the bands that they compete against are right in the middle of the fires (Rancho Bernardo and Poway) so we're sure that many of the band kids most likely lost homes. Thankfully the heat and winds have died down and the fires are almost contained.

Apple Picking in the Rain

Matthew and Doug went apple picking (in the rain) with Matthew's cub scout troop.
They picked apples (of course)....
panned for gold (didn't find any)....
made apple cider (yum)....
and just plain had fun (wet, cold fun!).
